Trek, a global leader in bicycle design and manufacturing, has added Cadasio to its toolkit for the purpose of improving collaboration and communication between its teams and partners worldwide.
“Trek is about innovation, solving complex problems and helping people use bikes for transportation, recreation and inspiration,” says Chad Manuell, Global Director of Engineering, Trek. “We selected Cadasio for its intuitive interface, ease of use and powerful tools to publish 3D content online. Also for its tight integration with leading edge CAD systems”.
Cadasio introduces a new way of presenting assembly and service instructions online in 3D. Existing CAD data can be imported directly via add-ins for popular applications such as Onshape, SolidWorks, Autodesk Inventor, Fusion 360 and Solid Edge.
Files can then be manipulated to create animated step by step assembly instructions which can be published online. End users can access instructions for free by sharing a web link, a QR code generated by Cadasio or by embedding them into your own webpage.
Manuell says Trek’s design ethos of “only building products we love” requires a globally distributed team to simultaneously work on a variety of projects while meeting an incredibly high standard.
“The most important question we always ask ourselves is, ‘Do I love this?’ If you don’t love what you’re making, why would anybody else?” he says. “I only want our people working on creating great stuff.”
We have all struggled understanding 2D paper instructions, as good as they are, they present a fixed perspective. Imagine you get stuck on step 4 because the printed instructions don’t make it clear where an item should go. When the instructions are presented in Cadasio you can rotate around step 4 and zoom in and out to really make sure that it’s clear what you need to do.
"We selected Cadasio for its intuitive interface, ease of use and powerful tools to publish 3D content online. Also for its tight integration with leading edge CAD systems."
Cadasio offers numerous advantages to manufacturers. Giving the person responsible for technical communications the ability to leverage the same CAD data as the design team can allow for quicker design and creation of technical communications, vital in reducing the time to market for new products. Even if you are still required to create 2D manuals, Cadasio can output images and videos, so it really covers all bases and allows you to offer another way for the end user to consume your material.
