They can be used for introductions, prerequisites, safety information, inspections, feedback collection, and many other use cases.
This article covers the basics of creating forms and using them within your projects.
Creating a Form
Forms are managed from the Forms section within the Library area of the Cadasio dashboard. To create a new form, click the plus icon, enter a name, and select Create. This opens the Form Builder, which is divided into three main areas. The left side contains blocks and input controls, the centre contains the form itself, and the right side displays settings for the selected item.
Adding Content
The quickest way to build a form is to add content blocks. You can either drag items from the left-hand panel onto the form or click them to insert them automatically. Text blocks can be used to provide instructions or information. Once selected, you can edit the content, choose a style, and adjust alignment options from the settings panel.
Adding Images
Images can be placed alongside text to create more visually engaging forms. When an item is dropped onto an existing row, the row is automatically split into columns. You can then adjust the width weighting of individual columns to achieve the layout you need.
Using Information Cards
Information cards provide a convenient way to display common project details. They can show information such as estimated completion time, required personnel, and required tools without having to build these layouts manually. This makes them ideal for introductory screens and instruction overviews.
Displaying Forms in a Project
Once a form has been created, it can be displayed inside a project. One common approach is to use a Step Popup. Open the Step Settings, switch to the Popup tab, select Form as the content type, and choose the form you want to display. The form will then appear when the viewer reaches that step.
Collecting Information
Forms can also be used to gather information from viewers. Available controls include text inputs, numeric fields, dropdown menus, switches, and other common form elements. This allows forms to be used for inspections, sign-offs, surveys, or collecting project-specific information.
Handling Submissions
Every form includes a submit button. The button text can be customised, and forms can optionally email submitted information to a specified address. This provides a simple way to collect information without requiring additional systems.
Working with Properties
Forms support properties, allowing content to update dynamically. For example, you can automatically display the project name or other project-specific information inside the form. If you're not familiar with properties, see the separate Tech Tip covering that feature.
Linking Forms Together
By default, a single form is displayed at a time. However, forms can be configured to open another form after submission. This makes it possible to create multi-step workflows and questionnaires.
Summary
Forms provide a flexible way to display information and collect data within Cadasio projects. By combining content blocks, images, information cards, and input controls, you can create everything from simple introduction screens to complex data collection workflows.
